Anatolian Languages, ancient languages of Asia Minor, forming a subfamily of the Indo-European language family. Now extinct, they were spoken from about 2000 bc in parts of present-day Turkey and Syria. The main Anatolian language is Hittite, shown to be an Indo-European language only as recently as 1915. Its written form, found on tablets inscribed in cuneiform, dates from the 17th century bc. Other languages of the group are Luwian, represented in cuneiform and hieroglyphic systems, Palaic, Lydian, and Lycian.
