Projectile, in military terminology, a missile discharged from small arms or from artillery weapons or a self-propelled weapon such as a rocket or a torpedo, or guided missile. The terms projectile, shell, and missile are loosely interchangeable, but in modern military usage projectile is preferable as a more precise term. In physics and ballistics, a projectile is any body projected through space.
