Windows Live® Search Results Vega, first-magnitude star of the constellation Lyra and the brightest star in the northern hemisphere of the sky, glowing with a distinct bluish tinge. Vega is approximately 26 light years from the Earth. In 1983 images from the Infrared Astronomy Satellite (IRAS) showed that the star is surrounded by a swarm of particles of undetermined size. Thus Vega is the first star besides the Sun definitely found to have a potential planetary system.
