Windows Live® Search Results L. Subramaniam (1947- ), Indian classical violinist of the Carnatic (South Indian) style, and composer. Subramaniam was born in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. His musical talents became apparent very early on and he was something of a child prodigy, giving his first concert at the age of eight. Subramaniam studied at the California Institute for Arts in Valencia and developed an interest in the relationship of Eastern and Western musical styles. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic and other orchestras, without compromising the classical style of Carnatic music in which he was trained. Subramaniam has also composed a number of orchestral works using elements of different world musical styles, as well as music for film and television.
