The Italian composer Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676) was an outstanding representative of Venetian opera, following on from Claudio Monteverdi. This excerpt is the soprano aria "Piante ombrose" from his opera Calisto (first performed in 1652), sung by Maria Bayo.
