Muhammad Rafiq Tarar
Muhammad Rafiq Tarar became President of Pakistan in 1997. He was the nominee of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who consolidated his power in the Pakistani hierarchy through his appointment. Tarar remained in office after the army coup led by General Pervez Musharraf in 1999, but was dismissed in 2001.
