The World Bank, also known as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is an organization affiliated with the UN and was established at the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944. The bank’s main function is to finance productive projects that further the economic development of member nations. The bank obtains its funds from the paid-in subscriptions of member countries, bond flotations on the world’s capital markets, and its net earnings. The World Bank headquarters are in Washington, D.C.
