International Phonetic Alphabet
The table shows the International Phonetic Alphabet. This alphabet is composed of symbols that correspond to sounds made while speaking. A key of examples of everyday words is given. The alphabet is intended to be a description of the pronunciation of vocal sounds common in many languages. It is used particularly in dictionaries, to aid the reader in pronouncing words that may be unfamiliar.
