Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius
This bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, which until recently stood in the Campidoglio on the Capitoline Hill in Rome (it is now in the Palazzo dei Conservatori), was erected in ad 175. Although many such statues honouring emperors and generals were made in ancient Rome, only a small number have survived. This one provided the model for many equestrian statues made from the Renaissance onwards.
