The same Yoruba word, when spoken with three different pitches, assumes different meanings. The word ogun has at least nine different meanings in Yoruba, according to the pitch it is spoken in. These meanings are "war", "medicine", "he/she stabbed", "twenty", "inheritance", "long", "he/she climbed", "sweat", and a prefix for certain deities.
